Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.

Project Summary

This is my first project ever, where above all I aim to gain experience and build up more and more self-sufficiency. After I have developed the basic patterns and decided the major plants, I am going to plant those shrubs soon.. Until now I did most of the work on my own - Help would be much needed.

Project Description

Plan for the 100m² area that i picked for my first steps into the world of permaculture.Next Step:
When everything goes well I'm going to plant those shrubs you can see on the design sketch below in calender week 9 - the first week of march.

Furthermore:
Dig over the sod and sow green manure (phacelia, yellow sweet clover and fodder reddish), develope web-based plant database (see here) and further develop the design (especially concerning water harvesting systems. See this update, also featuring a rock pile!)

Already done:
Developed basic patterns, concept and design, chose and organized major plants, made some hügel and keyhole-hügel-beds (mound beds). Dug plant holes, created a pond connected to a plant hole by a swale.

Updates

The first spring.

This is a preview for a little flickr album showcasing some of the things I managed to do in my spare time and lunch breaks. Hope you enjoy it. Feel free to comment anything..

Design Update: Swale system, ponds and rock piles!

Attempt to using swales in very humid climate (up to 1300mm/year). I want to attach some ponds as well. And: I learned something great about rock piles today.
