Kayla is a massage therapist, mother and keen permaculturalist. She and her husband and son moved into the Old School House in the ex-forestry village of Kransbos.They have been there about a year, trying to live off the grid, but still using a generator occasionally.

Still learning about this environment. I rather ignorantly planted an exposed veggie garden, & a couple of troops of baboons + a rogue male have found that + the exhisting fruit trees to be wonderful foraging spots. Planning on enclosing the veggie garden in a chicken wire room, to keep it baboon free, and ordered a special gift of chilli extract for the rogue male (Bob) who is becoming all too familiar with raiding around our settlement. Slowly planting a food forest, and eventually hope to put an electric fence around it. A lot of revival of the land has been going on, including removing a young blackwood copse, clearing a rubbish heap and planting an apple tree in its place, pruning, feeding & mulching exhisting fruit trees. Plans are underfoot to have a dam dug. We also are renovating the house, and have painted it all with natural paint from B-Earth. Hoping to eventually set up the entire village as a permaculture village and training centre.
