About Sieger Burger

I am a Dutch man, who works at the moment in Afghanistan. My skills and expertise are related to the triangle Water - Soil - Vegetation (waterharvesting, permeability and infiltration, interaction between soil and vegetation).

At this moment, I'm working with a Swiss NGO (Medair) in Afghanistan on a food aid project. With this project a lot of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) structures are build, like check dams, catch dams and contour trenches. Another part of the project is training the local people in DRR in relation to droughts and floods, in order to give them better understanding of the environment. I developed the training materials. Main inspiration source for this training was permaculture. The goal of this project is to repair damage from the flooding last year. With the DRR projects the impact of future flooding should be decreased.

In my previous job (2005 - 2011), I have worked in Holland in the infrastructure sector, as an all-round water specialist for urban water management and water management around large infrastructure projects.

Besides my daily work, I support different NGO's on the field of water management, SaSol in Kenia, SamSam Water, DVN in India (where I have trained local staff in the before mentioned DRR in relation to floods and droughts) and Waterhelp in Sri Lanka.

Education:
Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology, Master in Integrated Water management
