About Chowgene Koay
I grew up in Arlington, Texas sandwiched between Dallas and Fort Worth. It's a suburban town that has quickly grown to be the biggest metropolitan area without mass transit. The plan for the city was to create an elitist entertainment center and has been slowly accomplished with the creation of the Cowboys Stadium, Rangers Stadium Six Flags, and Hurricane Harbor. I've yet to be entertained.
Upon leaving DFW, I ventured into Austin, Texas. There I abandoned my university education in search for more rewarding and challenging endeavors. Through my search, I found Sunshine Community Gardens. The first challenge was to bypass their two year waiting list. I volunteered for 6 months and got a plot instantly. Next, I began to garden and found myself thoroughly enjoying it. Over time, I met Theron Beaudreau at the gardens who introduced me to Edible Forest Gardens and permaculture.
A few years has passed since then. I've helped to network and build relations within DFW and create a DFW branch of Community Cultivators. The main project at the moment is at East Ft Worth Montessori Academy with the intention to create an abundant facility that caters to education, application, and implementation of permaculture principles and practices.
