About Evan Young
Hello to the Permaculture world. My life is now an interesting split of touring with a Celtic Punk Rock band 'The Go Set' and all things Permaculture. My partner Anji Bergkvist and I completed the PDC with Geoff Lawton and Bill Mollison in September 2009 and have been 'terminal' ever since. We spent the next 6 months furiously gardening and studying. Our first backyard design and implementation was on a friends backyard in Brunswick Melbourne with great success.
2010 saw a massive learning curve for my Permaculture Education involving, Keyline with Darren Doherty, a 10 week Internship at PRI Australia as described at www.permaculture.org.au, Holistic Management with Kirk Gadzia and GIS/Watershed Analysis design course with Darren Doherty again.
Upon completing the Internship at PRI I was asked by Geoff Lawton to stay on at PRI to further my skill development in a chosen area of the farm. I elected to focus on the animal systems and quickly realised that I am very interested in grazing animals. The Holistic Management course with Kirk Gadzia obviously spurred this interest, he was a great inspiration and I used my time at PRI to implement Time-Controlled Grazing techniques and observe the results. Being situated in the sub-tropics I was able to observe a rapid increase of desirable pasture species as a result of these techniques. My time at PRI gave me a greater knowledge of pastures, livestock breeds and infrastructure including electric fencing and water supply.
I am a Permaculture consultant/designer/implementer with my main focus being animal grazing systems and garden designs.
I have just recently returned to Victoria and am hoping to set up on a farm very soon to test out my skills as an entrepreneur.
We are currently looking to secure a lease on a grazing property, prefer NSW or VIC but not essentlal.
